I WAS SO FORTUNATE TO BE A PART OF THIS, IT WAS A WONDERFUL PROJECT WAY BACK THEN 1971. I CAN’T BELIEVE THE AUDIENCE IS STILL ACCEPTING ME MANY YEARS LATER DOING THE SAME ROL EVERY NIGHT. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. -¿HAS IDO MODIFICANDO EL PERSONAJE TODOS ESTOS AÑOS? -YES. THE THING IS EVERYTIME I START A NEW PRODUCTION I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO MORE RESEARCH, AND EVERY YEAR THERE’S A NEW RESEARCH ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR SUBJECT. YOU EXPERIENCE THE STORY, THE ACTUAL MOMENT. THE AUDIENCE GIVES US SO MUCH SUPPORT THROUGHOUT. LAST NIGHT WE DID OUR OPENING PERFORMANCE HERE AND THE AUDIENCE WAS SO SUPPORTING OF US FROM THE BEGINNING. THE FIRST THING THE AUDIENCE HEARS, THEY RECOGNIZE. WE TRY TO GIVE THE ENERGY BACK. -¿CÓMO ES LA ENERGÍA DE LOS ACTORES CON LOS TRABAJAS? -THEY’RE THE MOST TALENTED GROUP OF PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. MOST OF THEM HAVE BEEN WITH ME FOR 4 YEARS. WE STARTED IN ROME IN 2014 AND WE’VE BEEN ABLE TO CONTINUE. WE’RE ALL FAMILY NOW. THE SINGERS, THE DANCERS WORK HARDER THAN ANYBODY IN THE WORLD. I JUST WALK AROUND AND SCREAM. THEY WORK. -¿CÓMO EXPLICARÍAS ESTA OBRA QUE EMPEZÓ CON CRÍTICAS CERCANAS AL SACRILEGIO Y SE HA CONVERTIDO EN UNA DE LAS OBRAS MÁS ACLAMADAS? -THEY’RE ALL RIGHT. ALL CORRECT. EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION CERTAINLY BECAUSE IT’S AN SPIRITUAL CONCEPT, THERE ARE THOSE WHO STILL DON’T AGREE WITH THE CONCEPT. THE LYRICST AND THE COMPOSER DID THIS IN THEIR EARLY TWENTIES AND THEY WENT DEEP IN THE BOOKS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT TO GET THE IDEA OF THE STORY. THE CONCEPT IS LOOKING AT A MAN CALLED JESUS OF NAZARET IN HIS LAST SEVEN DAYS OF HIS LIFE AS SEEN THROUGH THE EYES OF HIS COMTEMPORARIES, BOTH GOOD AND BAD. THE PRIEST, THE APOSTLES. IT’S A CHOICE FOR THE AUDIENCE TO MAKE WHICH ONE THEY CHOOSE. IT’S NOT SAYING THIS IS RIGHT, THIS IS WRONG. THIS IS THE WAY IT MAY HAVE BEEN. EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION. THE GREAT REVIEWS, THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. I LEARN FROM WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY AND MY PERFORMANCE.
